Whether you're a beginner, an advanced-beginner, an intermediate or an advanced rider, Foxfield has lessons for you.
Foxfield focuses on teaching hunt seat, the style of English riding that is geared toward jumping, but Foxfield starts its beginners in western saddles. That's because western saddles are bigger, more stable, and more forgiving to a rider who has not yet "found her seat." Beginners ride in western saddles until they can demonstrate control of their horses' speed and direction, and are solid on horseback at a walk, trot and canter.
Beginners' lessons are held in Foxfield's dressage ring, and are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 4:00 pm and on Saturdays at 9:00 am, 12:00 am, and 2:30 pm. A special lesson for absolute beginners is held at 4:00 pm on Fridays, and lessons especially for adult beginners take place on Tuesdays at 10:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Riders begin riding in an English saddle once they can demonstrate a basic control of their horses and an ability to ride at the walk, trot and canter. As advanced beginners, students work on basic movements such as circles and changes of direction. They are introduced to the concepts of "diagonals" and "leads." They begin learning to jump over small logs in the hunt field or a sequence of two small fences in the arena.
Advanced Beginners' lessons are held in Foxfield's Hitchcock Pen, and are offered on Saturdays at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm.
Intermediate riders master their diagonals and leads, work on basic movements like circles, reversals, and serpentines, and jump up to four fences in sequence.
Intermediate classes are held in the main arena, and are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm, and on Saturdays at 9:00 am and 2:30 pm, and at 11:00 am in the Hitchcock Pen. Intermediate lessons are also offered on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 am and on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Once riders have mastered the skills taught in the intermediate lessons, they will be invited to join one of Foxfield's advanced lessons. In advanced classes, riders work on basic and intermediate dressage movements, jumping exercises and courses, both in the arena and in the hunt field. Like lower-level lessons, some of Foxfield's advanced lessons are more advanced than others, so admission to any advanced lesson is by invitation only.
Advanced lessons are held in the main arena, and are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays at 7:30 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm and 1:15 pm.
