Riders begin riding in an English saddle once they can demonstrate a basic control of their horses and an ability to ride at the walk, trot and canter. As advanced beginners, students work on basic movements such as circles and changes of direction. They are introduced to the concepts of "diagonals" and "leads." And they begin learning to jump over small logs in the hunt field or a sequence of two small fences in the arena. Advanced Beginners' lessons are held in Foxfield's Dressage Arena, and are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm and Saturdays at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm.
