Tidbit

Tidbit

There is a roan pony in the Hitchcock Ring lessons whose front teeth are missing and whose tongue hangs out. Some kids don’t want to ride her because they say they feel sorry for her. Little do they know what a precious addition to the school “Tidbit” has been. Also known in the show ring as “My Fair Lady,” she was a very fancy show pony back East before she came to Foxfield. After she proved to be just too difficult for her young rider to control, she was sent to U.C. Davis as a donation, and came under the control of an old friend of ours, Dr. Kathy Jones. Once Kathy got to know her, she knew this very special mare belonged here at Foxfield, so she donated her.

When Tidbit arrived in the late 80’s we knew exactly why she had been given away – she was a terror in the ring and, as they say, A LOT OF HORSE!

After lots of schooling and numerous group lessons with experienced riders, she became not only a wonderful teacher, but an accomplished wire horse. She spent many years on the drill team doind whatever was needed, from performing the routine to being a flag carrier mount. She has traveled far and wide with the team – from Indio and Santa Barbara to Louisville, KY and Scottsdale, AZ.

When you look at Tidbit, don’t just notice her tongue or her teeth. Know that you are looking at one of Foxfield’s most gifted school horses. We are grateful she is still here teaching young riders week in and week out.
