Several years ago a young girl from Denmark came to Foxfield with the love of her life, a big beautiful mare named “Sally.” After taking many lessons together and advancing through the ranks, Julie grew fond of another school horse and asked if she could trade Sally for him. What a lucky break for us!
Julie Bulow-Nielsen is now 22 years old and is a long way from Foxfield, but she often looks at our website and recently nominated this special mare to be honored.
Julie describes Sally as “a gorgeous chestnut brown lady, 22 (years) of age. She is my favorite horse in the world and I miss her...She has a beautiful spirit and tries her hardest. She has her moments, but she can be difficult at times.”
Julie said she has come out to visit her old friend a couple of times since she left and said Sally loves it here. She must be happy, because she has proven to be a jewel of a school horse. She began in the Main Ring and has since moved down to teach intermediate riders the technical skills required to advance. Since she is well schooled but can be a handful at times, she is a very popular mount for the pre-main lesson on Saturdays.
At least two riders have leased and loved Sally – Katie Artale and Sam Corbett – and they can both attest to the fact that she is a one-of-a-kind. We will always be grateful to Julie for trusting us with her love.
