In 1996 a skinny red Thoroughbred was delivered to Foxfield to be sold.
He spent a couple of months on Pony Island and was ridden often by
Jaime Krupnick, but was taken back to a sale barn in Orange County. In
July of that year we got a call that his owners wanted to donate him,
so Oliver came to live at Foxfield permanently. What a horse he turned
out to be.
“
Crimson Tide” won jumper classes from Santa Barbara to Indio to LA with
Jessie White and was always in the money, including a 3rd place in the
Foxfield Jumping Derby. He could certainly go around a course at a
quick, clean pace, but he also showed a softer side, winning several
Championship Equitation classes and placing third in a SFVHSA 17 &
Under Medal Final. This nice horse was later leased by Erin Roddy, then
Val Funfar, both of whom were very successful with him in the show
ring.
Oliver has been in the school as a “permission only” horse for
quite some time now, and has adapted beautifully to his job. Lucky
riders get to learn from this all-around equitation-hunter-jumper with
a heart of gold. He is one of the more vocal horses in boys corral, and
loves it when people pay attention to him. There is no horse around
with more personality. When he was first moved to the corral he was cut
and bruised all the time, not because other horses beat him up, but
because he played so hard he would hurt himself!
Needless to say, we are very lucky to have been given such a special horse, and he will always have lots of fans.
