In 1999 a cute grey mare named Lily came with three other horses from the Hart Ranch to live at Foxfield. At first she was hard to ride and "hyper" and we weren*t sure whether or not she would be sutiable for the school. We decided to give her some time to see if she would settle down and adjust to life here.
Well, as most of you know, Lily is now one of our most popular school horses. She is always on top of the *choices* list for our home and camp shows, and is used consistently in lessons. As a result, no one has ever been lucky enough to lease her. Cecile Chatt has found a friend in her and does a great job of taking care of this special pony.
She is a favorite among campers, too, including Julianna Joss, who wrote, *Lily is a very special mare. She has a gentle heart and a loving soul. There will never be another horse like her. The energy and light she gives to Foxfield is something that cannot be replaced nor described. I think Lily is one of the most willing horses I have ever ridden. She always tries her hardest to do what is correct. Lily responds well to your leg, however she needs only a little hand. Her gaits are very smooth, and (she) does a great job of jumping. She excels in every discipline, from dressage to working hunters over fences.*
Foxfield students Hannah Heitzig and Sierra Still both nominated Lily as horse of the month. Hannah described her as *the sweetest pony you will ever meet...I used to ride her in Main Ring. No matter how big the jumps were she gave it her all and jumped them. Her trot is perfect and her canter is smooth. She is the perfect pony to ride bareback.* Sierra wrote that she is *a passionate and loveable horse. She loves to jump and barely ever refuses one. I think her gaits are wonderful and smooth. She's a gift for the dressage riders to have.*
On top of all this, Lily excels in her job on the drill team. Needless to say, this former handful of a horse has worked out beautifully for us and we are grateful.
