Heineken came to Foxfield ten years ago via trainer Rudy Leone, whose wife had ridden him to many championships in the Amateur Owner Hunter Division. Although Callen Sheller leased him in the beginning and Chrissy Zicarelli leased him in his later years, Heineken's true gift was his ability to be the perfect "catch ride."
He took a very happy Emily Cohen to the Reserve Championship in the Onondarka Medal Finals in 1995.
As you can see by the photos, this was a huge moment in Emily's riding career and one she will never forget. The class was huge and the courses were demanding, but Heineken and Emily were almost flawless.
Kelly Olsen showed him at the Flintridge Children's Show that same year and scored high marks in the hunter ring.
One of his most special riders was Judy Lindsey, who rode Heineken at many Foxfield shows and traveled to the Santa Barbara National Amateur Show where the pair won several blue ribbons. Judy spent hours and hours caring for this special horse and we are eternally grateful.
In addition to his other duties, Heineken has been a very talented drill horse over the years for riders like Shelly Postel, Jenny Watring, Emily Cohen and Jessie White, among others. He had no problem mastering the wire and was always ready to perform.
Back at the school this trusty warmblood has taken scores of willing riders through their paces. He is now in the Hitchcock ring helping advanced beginners learn more intricate movements so they can move up to Dressage. He seems to enjoy his role as teacher, and has many fans.
Foxfield is so happy to have this special horse. If you ever get a chance to sign up for him, thank you lucky stars!
