Heidi

Heidi was very young when she came to Foxfield in the early 90's.  Unlike the almost-white pony she has become, she was dappled dark grey and white and could be recognized by the tattoo under her mane.

HeidiEmily Cohen had a lot of success on the young pony in flat classes, then Lindsey Smith got the chance to lease her.  During their first show together in Santa Barbara, the green Heidi was not very cooperative, but after Lindsey got to know her better, and with the help of trainer Kathy Megla, they started winning just about every class they entered, on the flat and over fences.  Their victories included short stirrup championships at the Flintridge Children's Show and Pebble Beach, among others.

Sadly, Lindsey moved back east, but that gave Lexi Shaw a chance on the feisty Heidi.

Lexi and Heidi were pony champions at The Oaks and were quite successful at some of the other big shows, including Indio.

In addition to Emily, Lindsey and Lexi, both Montana Coady and Claire McDonald leased her at one time.  They, too, had their triumphs in the show ring.

Her glory days of showing are behind her, and Heidi is not very interested in jumping any more, but she is more than willing to teach beginning riders how to make a horse walk, trot and canter.  Not too long ago we put her in the Hitchcock Ring with a western saddle, and she became a happy pony once again.

If you have a favorite school horse, you can nominate it to be School Horse of the Month.
