Cheerio came to Foxfield with a group of horses from the Moorpark College Equestrian Studies program in the 1990’s and has been a valuable part of the school ever since. She is a beautiful strawberry roan with a huge white blaze and is very friendly and willing to please.
During her career at Foxfield Cheerio has been leased by a few riders, including Julie Trimble, Caroline Hill, Amanda and Jaime Rice and Sarah Morello. When Sarah was 12 years old she described her as: ...the most wonderful and beautiful horse that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! She is very honest and will jump almost anything that she is capable of (unless that certain jump is a very ostentatiously decorated fence). If you ever find yourself atop her back, you will see that all I have said about her greatness is true.”
Shannon Hanke wrote: Cheerio is so amazing! (She) will do anything for you just as long as you give her the correct commands or the right amount of pressure with your leg. Sometimes she will do the forehand before you even ask! Cheerio is a great horse and if you ever get the chance to ride this wonderful horse, I can almost promise you that you’ll love her!”
Over the years this special mare has moved from Main Ring to Dressage, but no matter where she is, riders are always excited about the prospect of learning from her. And on Sundays she is not forgotten. Deborah Morello still drives out from her home in the valley just to visit her old friend and give her carrots.
Foxfield is very fortunate to have found such a great teacher and good friend.
