Which horse show
associations are right for me?
There are basically three reasons for joining a horse show
association:
1. The show you are
competing in charges a fee if you are not a member of the associations
that
sanction it. Actually, the
associations
are the ones who levy these fees. For
example, USEF and USHJA each charge $30 per show for each non-member. If you ride in just two USEF-sanctioned
shows, you recover the $110 annual membership fee.
2. You
plan to ride in medal classes. In order to do this you must join the sponsoring
associations listed below:
2009
Membership
Association Junior/Senior* Medal
USEF/USHJA $110/110 any USEF Medal, including Show
Jumping
www.usef.org Talent
Search (formerly B.E.T./USET)
PCHA (Pacific Coast) $35/50 PCHA ‘Victor Hugo-Vidal’
Adult Horsemanship

PCHA
14 & Under Horsemanship
Foxfield
Onondarka
any
CPHA medal (must join CPHA also)
PHA/WEST
(must join CPHA also)
WCE
(must join CPHA also)
LAHJA (Los Angeles) $55/55 any LAHJA medal
www.lahja.org Rosewood
SFVHJA (San Fernando Valley) $35/45 any SFVHSA medal
www.sfvhsa.org
CPHA
(Calif. Professional) $50/50 CPHA Jr./Am. (must join
PCHA also)
www.cpha.org CPHA
Foundation Eq. (must join PCHA also)
WCE
(must join PCHA also)
3. You
plan to compete for year-end hunter or jumper awards. In
this case you must also register your horse in the appropriate
association(s). We recommend that you
not register him with USEF as it is expensive and extremely
competitive. However, if you show in any
USEF-sanctioned
shows your horse will need a USHJA ID number. There is a one-time fee of $30 for this. If
you lease him from Foxfield or are taking
a school horse to one of these shows and he doesn’t already have a
number, be
sure you list Nancy Turrill as owner (USEF# 34191) on the form.
GENERAL INFORMATION
· Equitation points go to the rider,
not the
horse. Also, some classes are not
pointed (see horse show premiums for details).
· You do not need to register with any
association
to ride in Foxfield fun shows (Spring Fun, SumFun, POTS, Holiday), or
in any of
the rated Foxfield shows (except the Derby)
unless you ride in medal classes.
· If you plan to show at all, Nancy
and JoAnn recommend
that you join PCHA, LAHJA and SFVHJA at a minimum. If you go to Gold Coasts, Pebble
Beach,
Santa Barbara,
etc., plan on joining USEF also.
· All association membership forms are
available
on-line or in the office.
Good luck
in 2009!
